Nordex

Sales of Wind Turbines and project services on a turbine only or full EPC basis.

We have worked with Genesis for around 2 years and are now one of their number one suppliers. The vacancy came about through their PSL and was due to expansion. The current SCADA engineer had a large work load and needed support to help him. The SCADA Engineer was being overworked as a result. As a result, there was a danger of project deadlines not being met due to a high workload which could lead to missing out on projects. We were the first people to work on the Vacancy.

The Vacancy

The vacancy was for a Project Engineer who was specify all electrical equipment, technical support for purchasing, factory acceptance tests, contractor management and coordination, verification and interpretation of test results. They wanted someone who had an Electrical Engineering degree and at least 3 years experience in a similar role. The person also needed to be "hands on".

Nordex were looking for someone who was happy to maintain a hands on role as well as having a strong technical background. This is difficult to find as most people will go down the “hands on” route or the technical route, not both.

Finding the right candidate

The job description was taken over the phone from HR and I also liaised with the hiring manager to gain a complete picture of what they were looking for. Then we would draw up a shortlist of candidates within 2 weeks and submit them to HR and the hiring manager.

As we had been working a number of roles for Nordex at the time I started by speaking with candidates who were already on my database, to see if they were aware of anyone who would be suitable for this role and also advertised on several job boards.

I conducted an in-depth phone interview with all the relevant candidates and also asked numerous in depth technical questions to assess their capability. As we had been working on a number of other roles with Nordex I identified that someone we had submitted for another role would be a good fit. On discussion with HR they also agreed and the case was put to the hiring manager.

Timescales

The overall timescale for filling the vacancy was 4 weeks.

Recommendation

Genesis have the ability to spot a good match between a candidates approach, cultural fit and the type of candidate that Nordex like to employ. These will always tie in with the candidate’s aspirations and Nordex’s requirements.

 

I find Genesis consultants to be very personable and pleasant to deal with. They understand our requirements and their market and provide good quality candidates across a range of roles.

 

Genesis keep their cool through what is sometimes a challenging process. On one occasion they had set up a meeting for the candidate in Dublin, only to have the hiring manager cancel it on the day. The meeting was rearranged with minimal fuss and the candidate was successful in securing the role.
